Android 6.0 Marshmallow for Moto G Rollout Dates

Google announced the upcoming Android Marshmallow operating system in May 2015 and released three developer previews. Recently on September 29th Google unveiled LG Nexus 5X and Huawei Nexus 6P devices with Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. On October 5th Google also uploaded the source code of Android 6.0 Marshmallow final build to AOSP. Motorola announced a few days back, that which devices will get the Marshmallow update. So it seems that Motorola already started the building of Android 6.0 update for some of its devices. Previously Motorola updated Moto G 2nd Gen and Moto G 1st Gen smartphones to Android Lollipop in the beginning of this year and Google play editions got Lollipop in last year. Recently Motorola started the rollout of Android 5.1.1 to Moto G 2nd Gen and 1st Gen. On July 28th Motorola launched the Moto G 3rd Gen with inbuilt Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS. Motorola has announced that the Moto G3 and Moto G2 smartphones will get Android 6.0 soon. We have written briefly about the Android Marshmallow features in this post.
But Moto G 1st Gen is not present in the Motorola’s Marshmallow upgrade list. So it seems that Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is the final Android update for Moto G 2013. Moto G3 may get the Android 6.0 update earlier than Moto G2. Retail editions of Moto G3 may get this update in November some regions like the US. Carrier locked versions of Moto G 3rd Gen may get the Marshmallow update in December. In India Motorola may start the soak test of Marshmallow for Moto G 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen devices in December. Retail editions and unlocked editions of Moto G2 may get Android Marshmallow at the beginning of 2016. More details about the rollout of android 6.0 to Moto G3 and G2 devices will be revealed in coming days.

Android Marshmallow for Moto X Rollout dates

Moto X 2013 has updated directly to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop from Android 4.4 Kitkat recently. Moto X 2014 also started receiving the Android 5.1.1 update in some regions. Moto X2 Pure Edition is currently running on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Motorola also released Moto X Play and Moto X Style devices with inbuilt Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on July 28th. According to the latest Motorola’s Marshmallow upgrade list, Moto X 1st Gen won’t get Android 6.0 Marshmallow as it is absent in the list. Moto X2 Pure edition only gets Marshmallow in the US but Carrier locked Moto X 2nd Gen devices won’t get the Marshmallow update. Android 6.0 Marshmallow will bring these new features to Moto X 2nd Gen.
Moto X2 Pure edition and Moto X Style (Pure Edition) devices in the US will get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update at the ending of November or at the beginning of December. Moto X Play unlocked and carrier locked editions may receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update at the beginning of December. Today, Google has been announced the codename of Android M as Marshmallow and version 6.0. Google has also been released Developer Preview 3 or Final Preview of Android Marshmallow.
Update on 8/9/2015 :
Google is unveil Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system on September 29th at San Fransisco. So Motorola may start building of Marshmallow updates for Moto X and Moto G devices in October. So the first rollout of Android 6.0 update for Moto G or Moto X series may start in November or in the ending of October. More details about the Android 6.0 rollout for Moto G and Moto X devices will be revealed in coming days.
Update on 10/9/2015 :
According to a latest report, Android Marshmallow won’t feature dark User Interface theme in the final release. This dark theme was available in early preview of Android 6.0 but absent in later previews. Now it will be absent in final build too. But Google said that in building future updates they will consider the dark UI option. So further updates after Android 6.0 may feature the dark UI feature.
Update on 17/9/2015 :
Google updated the Google App with Now on Tap and Marshmallow UI. The app is currently available in playstore for download and requires Android 4.4+ to work perfectly. But new features of the app works only with Android Marshmallow developer preview 3 and not with earlier versions. The Now on Tap functionality improves user experience. Users can search useful information without leaving the current app with Now on Tap function. New Google app will come inbuilt with Marshmallow update and then more details about the app will be revealed. You can see the new Marshmallow launcher below.

Update on 19/9/2015 :
Google invited press for the event on September 29th to unveil the Marshmallow operating system and two new Nexus devices. It has already been confirmed that the version number of Android Marshmallow is 6.0. The event will begin at 9 A.M. Pacific time in San Francisco. Some analysts are saying that Google may unveil an update to chromecast also. So more interesting details about the Android 6.0 Marshmallow opersting system will be revealed n September 29th.

Update on 30/9/2015 :
Google unveiled the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system yesterday. According to some officials, the Marshmallow flavour of Android will be uploaded to AOSP on October 5th. So after October 5th, tech giants other than Google will start building the update to their flagships. According to latest news, there is no change in the expected time line of Moto G and Moto X Marshmallow update. Motorola will start the building of update in a few days.
A new feature of Marshmallow has revealed just now. Android 6.0 Marshmallow is coming with the security patch level feature also. Users can check their phone’s security level by Going into Settings>About>Android Security Patch Level. It shows when was the last time device has received security update. Most devices may show a date of last month because, most tech giants recently started the rollout of security updates monthly due to Stage fright issue. More details about this remarkable feature will be revealed in coming days.
Update on 3/10/2015 : No Marshmallow for Moto G1 and Moto X1
At last Motorola officially announced which devices will be upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. According to the officials, in the smartphones released in Moto series in 2015, only Moto X Play, Moto X Style (Pure) and Moto G 3rd Gen will be upgraded to Marshmallow. Moto E2 will not be upgraded to Marshmallow. In 2014 Moto series, Moto G 2nd Gen, Moto X2 Pure Edition (US only) and Moto X 2nd Gen will be upgraded to Android 6.0. Carrier editions of Moto X2 in the US like AT&T Moto X2 will not receive Marshmallow update. In 2013 Moto series, none of the smartphones will get Marshmallow. So Moto E 1st Gen, Moto G 1st Gen and Moto X 1st Gen won’t be upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. But in future Motorola might add Moto G 1st Gen and Moto X 1st Gen devices to Marshmallow upgrade list.
Update on 8/10/2015 :
Google uploaded the Marshmallow Source code to AOSP on October 5th. Motorola may already have started the building of Marshmallow for eligible Moto G and Moto X devices. So in a few days Motorola will invite some selected Moto G3, G2 and Moto X2 users in some regions for the soak test of Marshmallow. In a few days full details about Marshmallow soak test will be revealed.
Update on 19/10/2015 :
According to latest reports, Motorola has started the test drive of Marshmallow for Moto X Pure Edition (2015). So it seems that in a few days Motorola is starting the soak test of Android 6.0 Marshmallow for Moto X Pure (2015). So Moto G3 and Moto G2 users may also receive invitations for the soak test of Marshmallow after Moto X Pure (2015) soak test. Moto X Play users may also receive soak test notifications soon. Full details about the soak tests of Marshmallow for Moto G 3rd Gen and 2nd Gen and Moto X devices will be revealed soon.
